The yellow units had been a serious presence on the WP since the mid 70's.

More were seen as the takeover got closer and comonly were sole power on WP trains.

Some of that was because WP owed UP a LOT of horsepower hours so some WP units were working locals for UP in SoCal and Kansas.
UP was short of four axle power because of retirements of the GP30 and GP35 fleets.
