Maroon Monday: a clean U25B??
Author: santafe199

Seeing is believing! Of course, the unit being very young in age certainly enhances its chances of having a clean appearance...

New equals clean. Great look back at the great Rock Island.

Working at Harter Yard in Oklahoma City, we were accustomed to whatever dust and grime showed up from El Reno or Little Rock.  Then one day a detouring Blue Streak Merchandise cruised through town.  As hard as this is to believe after SP hid its power behind obscuring dirt, the BSM's SP/SSW units were simply dazzling.

Excellent salvage job on that slide.   Thanks for sharing both versions with us here to allow us to see what you accomplished.

I hadn't planned to do that. In my mind I already had the theme of actng "surprised" at a clean Rock Island unit. But when I saw the scan from 2015 enlarged I realized I had a fun coincidence to play with. In the original scan I must have forgotten to use the dirt & dust speck removal feature during the scan. My Epson V550 would have gotten way over 3/4 of that stuff removed in the image it kicked out. But it worked out OK for the sake of a light-hearted story... :^)

You don't blow them off with some compressed air before scanning. ?

I routinely did for quite a while. But I found it's just as effective to use a soft camel-hair brush. And that saves a TON of money to get the same result. When you've scanned close to 100,000 slides it's easy to slip up now or then, which I'm sure is what happened to this 2015 scan......

At least the doors weren't lettered so they could be mixed and matched.
Nice photo Lance.

The "maroon dip" scheme was certainly nothing fancy, but still nice to see classic RI!  Great job on the dust.

Great job of cleaning up that photo and a nice looking unit as well.  But I'm curious as to how long it took to get it like that.

This image actually went a lot easier than some, maybe about 90" start to finish. But that's because roughly 75% of the image area to clean was plain sky & plain roadway/ground. If there had been a lot more "vital" detail to dodge & clean around, it would have taken much, much longer. (And I probably wouldn't have done it in the first place). I had a recording of the movie version of "Get Smart" to keep me going during the process... :^)
