Date: 12/27/21 12:27 Re: NYC GP9 question Author: SilverPeakRail Like most railroads would do, the NYC probably salvaged the ATS equipment off of steam locomotives. The turbo generators on steam engines were 32 Volt devices, so the ATC equipment was made for that voltage. Diesels produce 64 Volts for lighting and control, so the simple way to use the old equipment was to provide a motor-generator to make current for the ATC.
