follow-up to 'that little BN' ...
Author: valmont

On 1/4/22 my post "That little 'BN' ... did it change your filing system?" showed some examples of that little BN lettering on pre-merger paint schemes. There is a tie to unique locomotive lettering in Denver: the dual lettered (C&S, AT&SF) switchers such as the one shown in picture 1. Pictures 2 & 3 show that 'little lettering' was still around in 1977, but this time it was reversed on SW7 #154. Picture 2 shows 154 in BN paint and picture 3 shows, if you look closely, you will see that the tables have been turned ... there is no little BN, but there is little lettering ... this time with a tip of the hat to a Fallen Flag ... easily missed, but there: C&S.
1. my shot @ Denver in January 1972, still looking like the C&S after the BN merger
2. & 3. on 8/7/77 @ Denver by Bruce Black, fully BN ... with a little exception.

Attention to detail is a common theme for TO postings ... this is my 'little' contribution ; ^ )

Even in BNSF days,  the C&S 'lived' so to speak.  Witness the side sill on SD40-2 6379,  soon to become Fepasa Chile 3301.  Santiago,  March 2011.   The trucks are wide gauge (5'6") from retired GE shovel nose units,  needed to get the units from the port at Valparaiso to Santiago for rebuilding.

I don't remember the 154. It must have been gone during my roundhouse 'daze' in 1980,  And I had no idea of SD's in Chile.  A LONG way from Chugwater!

Fepasa Chile has six, Nos. 3301-06,  all former BN/BNSF.  I posted photos of all six on 11/28/20 09:06.

I like the "covered wagons" on the right in the last photo. Any info or more photos to share, perhaps on a separate post?

Italian-built E32 electrics.  Fepasa still has a couple of service.  I've posted ;photos of them over the years both as masterphots and PERichardson.

A very interesting post - thanks. I sure like that C&S - ATSF - BN switcher in the first image. Very sharp.
