Took these 2 shots on 5/23/70 @ Denver ... Q Silver E's leading a train (CZ?) into the yard. #9958 is in the lead with a better view of it in pic 2.
Don't recall the schedule but the CZ and DZ arrived early AM and if they were on time they were not far apart. Those E's were the usual power.

These still looked like Q power but that tiny BN had already slipped in ...

Nice shot!!! Old Burlington Route RR McCook b ased passenger ytain crews worked to and from Denver, CO.  Denver based engine crews  worked to and from Akron, CO.
 

i would guess the DZ, looks large for a california service consist  , the dz pulled straight in , which this guy is doing i assume the cali service may still have gone thru the washrack, or at least wyed

The CZ had been discontinued when the photo was taken.

True enough.  However, for a couple of months after the WP dropped the train, the BN still labeled it The California Zephyr.  However, by June, BN was able to reduce the train to tri weekly to connect with teh Rio Grande Zephyr and label it "California Service," and that lasted until Amntrak.
