Nostalgia & History > The Sunset Limited and BNDate: 01/15/22 07:43 The Sunset Limited and BN Author: gcm July 79
As the eastbound Sunset is serviced at the SP station in San Antonio a Burlington Northern coal train passes with a two year old SD40-2 6790 leading. 700 was the first numbered unit of the P30CH Amtrak series. Too big and heavy like SP's 3200's. Lot's of get-up-and-go, but too hard to get stopped every mile or two.

You can't please everyone.

Rich Date: 01/15/22 11:18 Re: The Sunset Limited and BN Author: Roadmaster BN handed off San Antonio coal loads to SP at Fort Worth. They ran through Ennis and Hearne, down the Dalsa cutoff to Giddings and thence to Flatonia and San Antonio. Empties returned via the same routing. Robert P. Olmsted's book Corsicana and the Ennis Sub has several shots of San Antonio coal trains from Waxahachie south in it.
