DRGW in the Royal Gorge

Taken by a very nervous photographer standing on what seemed to me to be a very rickety old suspension bridge. October 1990.

The sound of those trains winding through the Gorge was a real experience from the bridge.  Diesel exhaust and the flanges squealing were an eerie sounding noise.  Would have loved to hear steam in regular service from there.

I tried walking on the suspension bridge with the wind blowing about 30-35 MPH.  Had to give it up because of the bridge swinging up and down.  Down in the gorge itself the river made a lot of noise and it was hard to hear a train coming.  I got surprised by one eastbound.
That gorge is one hell of a place.
