Weedy platform told the story
Author: Copy19

Back in the summer of 1969 I caught Western Pacific's fabled California Zephyr eastbound gliding through Blairsden, Calif. in Feather River country.  The train's days would end in a few weeks but its classic round end dome observation car belied its doom.  I tried to ignore the weeds.  This picture always makes me wistful.  But I'm glad I was there.

Nice historical photo!  Looks like you're standing directly across from today's Mountain Hardware store.  Brings back a lot of good memories.  Thanks for sharing!

My wife and I have enjoyed many a fine meal at the Grizzly Grill across the road from the tracks there.

In 1969 there hadn't been a train scheduled to stop in Blairsden since the Zephyrette was discontinued in 1960.

Now you have made me hungry.  Think I'll head over to the Grizzly tonight.

Larry:  Last we were there was August 2017.    Best ever at the Grizzly was the prime rib.  Salute!

Old WP RR Oroville, CA based passenger train crews worked to and from Winnemucca, NV.  Portol, CA based engine crews worked to and from Gerlich, CA.

There's great pizza at Gumba's across the street from where the depot stood.

There also is a wonderful bakery in that row.
