My home away from home 20 years ago

It is hard to believe that it was 20 years ago that Reshui, China became almost a home away from home for me.  It was the perfect location for me because it combined chasing 2-10-2's over a mountain, hiking all over in the hills, and a bit of snow.

Great images of big time steam.  I especially love photo #2 of the double header and the meet.....and between semaphores, for big bonus points.
I neveer had the opportunity to do this, and, wisstfully, observed many great photo essays of the era.

Great photos!.  I was on the pass for the QJ's in the fall of 2004 and back on the flat east end of the line in 2005.  Went back for 3 more years to experience the remaining steam action in China.  Almost all of it is gone now.

What a juxtaposition, concrete ties and steam locomotives with semaphores!
Nice.

The Chinese are very thrifty, the JiTong line was equipped with engines and signalling equipment that was surplus to other lines, but adequate for the JiTong until the old stuff either reached the end of its economic life (steam) or traffic increased to the point that better stuff was needed (signalling).  Today the line appears to be mostly double track....maybe even electrified?  Anyone have any first hand info about the line today?d
