Nostalgia & History > Rerouted #24 and the MKTDate: 05/13/22 12:05 Rerouted #24 and the MKT Author: gcm Dec 79
The Houston-Temple section of the Inter-American was rerouted on the Katy this day to Temple. Here it is westbound at Whit siding (between Houston and Katy) passing an inbound Katy freight with GP38-2 308 leading. B units on the MKT were few and far between at this time. This part of the Katy was abandoned in 1997 for I-10 expansion. Gary Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/13/22 13:28 by gcm. Thanks the the excellent and ubusual posting. ALLEN Date: 05/13/22 13:51 Re: Rerouted #24 and the MKT Author: Roadmaster Originally the east end of Whit siding - and I think the siding was built in the early-to-mid-70's - was on the west side of Fry Road, which passes over the tracks in the background of Gary's photo. I take it the fresh ballast was placed just after the siding was extended eastward. The mainline had to be moved slightly to the north so that it and the siding would fit between piers of that overpass.
