Nostalgia & History > Schuykill and Lehigh vintage viewsDate: 05/14/22 09:23 Schuykill and Lehigh vintage views Author: thebluecomet The Reading had a branch that ran from Temple (north side of Reading) north and eastward to the small town of Slatington, PA. Known under various names in the later 19th Century, it was later called the Schuykill and Lehigh under the Reading. Today a very short piece exists near Temple and a few isolated miles between Kempton and Wanamakers is used by the tourist line Wanamakers, Kempton & Southern. The remaining trackage up to Slatington was abandoned in 1962.
1. This is an RR Wallin duplicate slide and was not labeled. If anyone knows the location, please let me know. 2. This is a Charles Houser slide dated April 9, 1949. The notes say this was the last day for "The Berksy". The second car is noted as the 4067 seen in the first image. Taken by the Lehigh Valley station at Slatington, PA. 3. The brick Lehigh Valley station at Slatington met its demise in spectacular fashion with a high speed derailment of a LV train. A Charlie Houser slide dated February 2,1969.
