Nostalgia & History > Fifty Or More Years Ago - PRR 9115Date: 09/21/22 05:56 Fifty Or More Years Ago - PRR 9115 Author: refarkas It is a morning in 1967 or 1968 in Akron, Ohio. PRR 9115 is eastbound on the eastbound B&O main. Perhaps she is going to interchange cars with the B&O at the Akron Junction yard. On the next track is the westbound B&O "Diplomat" making a station stop. Beyond the "Diplomat" is the EL passenger station. Notice the man at the open window. What a railfan's dream location this was.

This is a PRR SW-9 with PC renumber. Several things to note: The man in the window as mentioned. The B&O E unit 3 trumpet horn - I am not a horn guy but most switchers I recall had a single blatter. At least four guys in the cab. Interesting spark arrestors over the stacks. MU walk over plate, MU receptacle and MU air What is the air hose? in the cut-out at the right foot board ? And yes, still in the era of foot boards. Sand stains at the sand fill box. Cab awning. Low signal at the lower left (maybe someone can give some details on it) Some sort of "Authorized personnel only" sign maybe? on the cab door of the E unit. A glimpse of the platform and platform light. The covered station stair walkways and platform overheads. Wonderful image of days gone by with perfect timing, a visual time machine, and all the better as I picture myself as the man in the window taking it all in. So many times I saw these workaday switchers and rather ignored them or discounted them and focused on the big road power. After all ,were not switchers a dime a dozen back then ? Edited 3 time(s). Today, what tracks remain? Date: 09/21/22 10:04 Re: Fifty Or More Years Ago - PRR 9115 Author: refarkas train 1275,
Your comments hit the heart of this photo! Thank you. Bob Date: 09/21/22 10:07 Re: Fifty Or More Years Ago - PRR 9115 Author: refarkas Today... There are only the two now-CSX mainline tracks. That is all! The EL station, the EL tracks, and the EL itself are gone. The other B&O tracks and the B&O station platform are gone.
