An overcast January 16, 1971 in Cheyenne was brightened by the power on this train: C&S SD9 838 followed by D&RGW F's 5574, 5573, 5722, 5764 and another C&S SD9.

F7A's #5574 and 5764 were frequently on the California Zephyr during her final years.  This appears to be part of their swan song.

Wow! Vitamin Q supplemented by Grande Gold. Great catch! Reminds me of the years when the horsepower starved Illinois Central was using F units from DRGW, Bessemer, Katy, and Precision Mt Vernon, il while Paducah Kentucky was busy cranking out rebuilds to catch up with the shortages. Nice look back.

Didn't the C&S lease Rio Grande power during sugar beet season?

I have pictures of DRGW F's, MKT F's and UP GP's hauling beets on the C&S  (late 60's, early 70's) when beet season rolled around.

Love that lashup!! Cool shot from an era when you could see some very interesting lashups north and south of Denver.
