Nostalgia & History > F Unit Friday - SP Westbound Beets at Pajaro River Bridge 1967Date: 09/23/22 08:35 F Unit Friday - SP Westbound Beets at Pajaro River Bridge 1967 Author: FiveChime One of my first sildes taken with primative Kodak Instamatic camera.
A-B-B-A set of F's probably out of Watsonville Jct., west of Logan, Calif. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 09/23/22 09:00 Re: F Unit Friday - SP Westbound Beets at Pajaro River Bridge 196 Author: ExStarlightHog That bridge had/has "P" signals on both ends because of an earthquake detector. An old head once told me the San Andreas runs right under the bridge. I never checked to see if that was true. If so, then the train is leaving the North American plate and crossing over to the Pacific Plate. The next signal going east was also a "P" signal. It protected the facing point spring switch where you turned out to the east main at the beginning of double track at Logan. Turnout speed was 25. 35 west of the switch.

Some of our most memorable and irreplacable shots were taken by our earliest cameras. Four years before your shot I was shooting ACL FT's with my first camera - a Brownie Starmite that I got with Green Stamps.

It was possible if a vehicle backed out of a parking place and bumped the housing that protected the detector it could cause the signals at Logan protecting this bridge to go "Red".

As broad as the San Andreas is at that area (multiple forks/branches) it's likely one could consider that bridge to be on top of the fault zone. Image below from https://www.thulescientific.com/san-andreas-fault-map.html website. San Andreas is in red and parallels the Pajaro thru this area. UP changes in the signal system doing away with them in favor of other means of protection?
Never knew the San Andreas ran through there. sphogger Date: 09/23/22 16:30 Re: F Unit Friday - SP Westbound Beets at Pajaro River Bridge 196 Author: WAF sphogger Wrote:
