Nostalgia & History > Time to Visit Petaluma Calif.Date: 12/01/22 14:38 Time to Visit Petaluma Calif. Author: rattenne Photographer Jim Wren lived in Petaluma up through 1968 which meant his hometown railroad was the Petaluma & Santa Rosa, a subsidiary of the Northewestern Pacific which was itself a subsidiary of Southern Pacific. Here's a pair of photos - both shot with Jim's Speed Graphic camera - from the early 1960s.(I may have posted these before many years ago).
1. P&SR 44-tonner Nos. 4 & 3 between switching moves on April 27, 1960, Both units still wear the black and orange scheme. 2. Fast forward 4 years and we see P&SR No. 3 is working solo, switching Dairymen's Feed in Petaluma on a chilly January day in 1964. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/01/22 14:39 by rattenne. Bob Date: 12/01/22 15:47 Re: Time to Visit Petaluma Calif. Author: phthithu Awesome images. Thanks for sharing, Ken. Both of the feed mills are still using rail today. That bridge over the creek is gone today due to a flood control project that saw a new spur into Dairymen's off the NWP--now SMART--main in the 90's. There's a photo out there of this industry with catenary poles in place. WIll try to find.
