Nostalgia & History > Ex-NYC electric S2 4710 at - surprise - CollinwoodDate: 12/04/22 06:24 Ex-NYC electric S2 4710 at - surprise - Collinwood Author: gcm Oct 76
Spending its 70 years (built 1906) in the New York area, what a surprise to see it at the Collinwood shops in Cleveland. Even on the shady side an impressive old electric. I'm not sure if it was saved and headed to a museum or if it was scrapped. Bob Date: 12/04/22 09:33 Re: Ex-NYC electric S2 4710 at - surprise - Collinwood Author: Lighter Wasn't NYCentral electrified from Collinwood to Terminal Tower and then out the west side of Cleveland? That motor could have been working it's final days before the end of the electrification, and then abandoned.

The CUT electric operation ended in the mid-1950s, with the motors sent east to work out of Grand Central. The units still in existence are NYC 113 at MOT in St. Louis and NYC 115 (later PC 4713) at IRM, plus S-1 #6000 (later 100) waiting to be saved again in New York. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Central_S-Motor https://tnmot.org/the-collection/ https://www.irm.org/cgi-bin/rsearch.cgi?eloco=Penn+Central=4715 https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/museum-works-to-save-two-rare-new-york-central-electric-locomotives/ https://files.constantcontact.com/eebf43f1601/fc93204b-5d5c-4d3c-aef9-5a613ab79f5a.pdf Date: 12/04/22 19:51 Re: Ex-NYC electric S2 4710 at - surprise - Collinwood Author: Lackawanna484 The Terminal Tower complex in Cleveland was constructed in the late teens and early 1920s. The Library of Congress has an extensive gallery of construction pictures of the station's public rooms, underground rail platforms, etc
