NJ Transit Eport Transfer Table
Author: sig292

While I have seen many photos of the other side of the EX-CNJ Elizabethport, New Jersey shop where the locomotives were kept, I haven't come across many shots of the transfer table. I was lucky during a visit to the shop on February 21, 1987. I was able to photograph both U34CH # 4163 and Comet II trailer # 5634 being moved on the table. I didn't make more than a half dozen trips to Eport before it was closed, and this was the only time I saw the transfer table in use.

Now, this was before the Meadows Maintenance Complex (MMC) opened, right?
When was that - late 1987 or '88? Also, was the ex-CNJ main between E'port and Cranford
the "access route"  and who owned it at this time - NJT or CR?  Great action photo -thanks!

I believe the MMC opened in 1988.  The Bayonne Scoot was long gone, I think it ended about 1980, under Conrail.

Actually, Sunday, August 6, 1978.  Glad I rode it when I did.

My most unique shot from that side of the shops was the day that EL 3638 rolled into the "pit", I think July 1974.

As far as I know the only access to E-port in the NJT area was via the ex-CNJ from Aldene to E-port.  Although I don't ever recall seeing the tracks used for deadhead moves or anything else during the 1980s.  Can anyone confirm this route was used for shop moves until 1988?
