Nostalgia & History > Some Algoma Central Power in 1989Date: 02/04/23 12:43 Some Algoma Central Power in 1989 Author: MartyBernard Passing through Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on September 24, 1989 I found some Algoma Central power to shoot.
1. Algoma Central GP38-2 201, GP7 120, GP7 104, GP38-2 203, a heater car, and a train. 2. A closer look at 203 and the heater car. 3. Algoma Central GMDD SW8 141 built April 1952. Date: 02/04/23 12:46 Re: Some Algoma Central Power in 1989 Author: refarkas The heater car is a fascinating way to rebuild a steam locomotive tender into something else.
Bob Date: 02/05/23 11:38 Re: Some Algoma Central Power in 1989 Author: ntharalson Thanks, Marty. I wonder if the heater car is ex-NP. They rebuilt several ex-steam angine tenders into such cars, several lasted into the BN I believe.
Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 02/07/23 22:05 Re: Some Algoma Central Power in 1989 Author: ACR_Ted The ACR bought 2 ex NP steam cars in 1972 - the H3 and the H5. The other 3 went to Auto Train.
First Photo - AC 80 (ex NP H5) is just fresh from the paint shop and is undergoing final testing. Sault Ste Marie, Ontario - February 18, 1973. Second Photo - A side view. Sault Ste Marie, Ontario - February 18, 1973. Third Photo - NP H3 which became AC 81. Sault Ste Marie, Ontario - November 8, 1972. These were very rough riding and had troubles with cracks in the frame. I once walked through one of these at speed and one had to hang on tight. Of course the ACR's jointed rail wasn't the best either. Ted Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/07/23 23:53 by ACR_Ted. |
