Nostalgia & History > Patched SP on UP Oakdale Local 2004Date: 03/09/23 17:32 Patched SP on UP Oakdale Local 2004 Author: erielackawanna Back on August 24, 2004, my wife and I were on our way to Yosemite with our kids when we spent a night in Oakdale (honestly, so I could get some quick railfanning in). Union Pacific's LRS94 Oakdale Local wasn't running, but its power was parked in a perfect spot. ex SP GP38-2 #575 and SP GP40M-2 #1486 bask in the California sun. The units sit on the small remaining remnant of the mostly abandoned Oakdale Branch (now reached via BNSF trackage from Riverbank). The eSPee Bloody Noses still look good though, even with their Borg patches. GP38-2 #575 was delivered to the SP as #4812 in May of 1980. Speed Lettered GP40M-2 #1486 was built as SP GP40 #7116 in November 1969. It was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudson in May of 1991.
