IIRC there was a large Purina feed mill and/or cereal processsing plant in Ft. Worth and still quite a network of small town elevators that shipped to them when I got to Texas first in 1975.  It seemed anachronistic at the time but was fun to see several tracks full of 40-ft. boxes all line up for simultaneous loading/unloading.  It was not on the SP or SSW but I don't remember what line it was on, it was north to Tower 55.

Purina located on the Rock Island. They are still in operation. In addition to 40 box cars, I recall seeing 40 foot bunker PFE cars. Purina was one of the last shippers who used small box cars. The reason small cars lasted this long was account Purina used them to ship bagged feed through Texas to small feed dealers. Typical load was 40 to 50 tons. This was marginal business and disappeared with deregulation of trucking and railroads.
