Looking for BN post merger research material.
Author: map

I'm looking for research on the BN during the early to mid 1970's, specifically on the combined locomotive fleets, what units were repainted and when and what units were retired. Plus any new locomotives that were purchased and delivered in green and black paint.

Any online resources would be great.  Also any "must have" books or hardcopy reference material.

Thanks in advance,

Mike Peters

There was a series of annual 'BN Motive Power Reviews' that may be of interest. They were put together by Hol Wagner and then the idea was picked up by Robert del Grosso who published into the BNSF era. They occasionally show up at Hobby Shows and places like EBay.

There's also specialty books on each of the heritage RR's and also by Region. It's a pretty big collection of books that often sell out pretty fast. A few hobby shops have good selections and then there's Abe's Books and Amazon with pretty serious search engines for finding used books.

BN reference websites seems to be hard to find and often last for a year or two and then go away.

+ there's at least two different titles for era focused RR books, either Motive Power Review for locomotives and such or anything 'Pictorial'. Outside of a few classics the title suggests what should be in there but sometimes they drift into a self-published book of personal photos, sometimes that works.
