SEPTA Brill Master Unit Upper Darby PA 1977
Author: erielackawanna

Honestly not totally certain how I finagled this one, but on a trip to visit family in Wilmington, Delaware, I convinced my parents to take two cars (it was nearly a three hour drive) so that my dad and I could go ahead and take photographs of the Red Arrows Lines and Philadelphia and Western on our way. As it was a weekend, rail traffic was light on the interurban lines, but it was still a wonderful step back in time for me and for my dad, who had been a huge Liberty Bell Lines fantatic when he was a teen. The Gulf Oil SEPTA scheme (named because of its similarity to the Gulf Oil sign) on this Brill Master Unit was a short-lived one, but pretty ubiquitious at the time. Despite a couple follow up visits over the years, I never once saw one of these Master Units turn a wheel. The Master Units were built in 1932, which was before my dad was born. I saw them run but in Red Arrow garb. I forgot about the Gulf Oil scheme. Pretty garrish.
Thanks for the memories.
