Sweet lighting and lashups! N&W really did lead numerous road freights with GP9's and 18's well into the 1980's. It was great to see that continue after many roads took them off most trains on the main. Alas, it only lasted a few more years past 1981. I got my driver's license in 1980, but didn't really get out on the road (out of the hometown) much until 1982, so I was able to catch the tail end of all this, so this brings back some great memories. Mom did get my brother and I trackside several times in the 1970's as well, and that N&W gaggle of power then was superb.
