Nostalgia & History > June, 1994: SOO Fuel Tender on D&H 266Date: 05/23/23 09:33 June, 1994: SOO Fuel Tender on D&H 266 Author: Pattenburg There is an 'ol saying that "...a bad photo is better than no photo!" which partially describes this June, 1994 scene at Musconetcong Tunnel in Pattenburg, NJ. It was late in the afternoon as shadows were starting to creep into the scene. I contemplated about leaving but was hoping for one more train before heading home. A headlight could be seen at the west end of the tunnel and as it emerged into Sunday's sunshine, that train was D&H 266 lead by SOO 6008 (EMD SD60), SOO Fuel Tender 4000 (ex-MILW 185) and an unidentified SOO unit. I will say that was a pretty impressive power consist to be seen at the tunnel.

BN's fuel tenders failed because it used tank cars and the buff forces between the locomotive, fuel tender, and second locomotive had too much buff forces for the freight car frame.
I worked at Northtown Diesel Material and saw lots of fuel tenders. Ed Burns Date: 05/24/23 08:12 Re: June, 1994: SOO Fuel Tender on D&H 266 Author: ntharalson NPEDDIE Wrote:

I was told they could never get them to seal up properly. As for the photo, a very nice shot, thanks for posting. I hadn't realized the Soo SD60's, the trailing unit is also that model, were equipped for fuel tenders. I've shot a lot of SOO stuff over the years, but didn't know they had a fuel tender.
