In 1973 I was firing Raleigh NC - Richmond on the Silver Star and the Vacationer. RF&P still kept one of the GP7's in Broad Street Station as lead engine protection power should one of the northbound passenger trains come in with a lead engine having bad order sanders, train control, or radio.
