Warbonnet Wednesday - FP45s!
Author: Chico56

With 100 on the point, three Super Fleet  FP45s lead a six unit consist and the Q-LANY across bridge 874.2 at the west end of Abo Canyon in March 1990.  This scene changed dramatically when the second track and bridge were added in 2011.
Enjoy and happy hump day,
Chico

What an AMAZING shot Chico! Your Santa Fe coverage is just beautiful.  Thanks for turning the time machine back a few decades...and for making me wish I had taken the time to visit Abo when it was Abo like we knew it.

Excellent, so many of us have stood in that same spot through the years but no more...

Catching multiple FP45's in regular service is rare and outstanding.  Thanks for posting.

Possibly, good guess since they have three digit numbers.  But it's would be rare to catch that.

At the time this photo was taken, the FP45's were the ONLY road power painted red and silver.  As such, from mid-1989 when the first ones were repainted until mid-1990, the 100-class Superfleet FP45's tended to be kept together in sets of two, three, or four powering premium intermodal trains to showcase the revived paint scheme (not always, of course, but frequently).

The new red and silver GP60M's and Dash 8-40BW's took over the hotshots when they arrived on the property in mid-to-late 1990.  The FP45's, now renumbered into the 90-class, quickly scattered and reverted to powering manifests and lower priority trains, the sort of trains where you'd expect to see 30-year-old, 20-cylinder power.  Finding two 90-class FP45's on one train was truly a rarity, and I don't think I've ever seen a matched set on anything other than a passenger special.
