Nostalgia & History > An NP caboose far from homeDate: 05/25/23 22:40 An NP caboose far from home Author: railstiesballast As a part of the joint RLHS NRHS SPRHC meeting in Reno (Sparks) last week I went on the excursion that included the Virginia & Truckee
Jammed into the shop tracks at Virginia City was this Northern Pacific 24-foot caboose, with NPRy cast into the truck frame. Sorry about the lighting and photo quality. Can anyone say what the original NP number was and how it ended up here? Between the V&T, the Nevada State Ry Museum, and the cities of Carson C. and Virginia C. this area is a fun, deep dive into history. ![]() Date: 05/25/23 23:11 Re: An NP caboose far from home Author: TCnR Classy looking caboose, nicely restored.
Can't find any dispo info in the Burlington Northern RR Cabooses by Robert Del Grosso except that the NP numbers were NP10706 to NP 10789, the BN numbers were 10929 to 10979. There were two visual features around the cupola, either continuous sheathing from the cupola roof to the bottom or the side moulding was solid across the bottom of the copula, as shown in this photo, but both types were in the same class. Laserkit has two kits for an HO scale NP 24 ft caboose, apparently the orginal build and a later version, noting that the numbers were in the 1200 and 1700 series: http://www.laserkit.com/laserkit.htm Edited 1 time(s). An came from the BN but the number isn't readable.
