Most Numerous Reading Diesel
Author: RDG630

At 67 units Alco RS models were the most numerous on Americas Largest Anthracite Carrier. They also had three different paint schemes.
First at Bethlehem Engine Terminal
Second on the W&N Branch with Joanna iron ore
Third at Reading, Pa, the only new green scheme RS3

Didn't realize the 449 made it into the "new" green.

The new green in the #449 image doesn't show well in this shot.  Almost looks like the pullman/coach green of the original paint job,

And the numbers of them make it the reason I remember them most. They were everywhere when I was a kid. I did however see Funits, Alco FAs, Geeps, and my favorite the monstrous Train Masters.
The old "Pullman green Reading" was changed forever when the bright green and yellow GP 30s showed up. What really blew me away was when the cabooses started showing up in green and yellow, heck; they are supposed to be red! Then box cars and even gondolas were turning green and yellow but the ubiquitous black hoppers only suffered lettering changes.
