Sorry, one of those things, Colonie, NY was D & H shops. 
they kept PA's there during interm when they were not being used.

Thanks for posting. I rode the train from Albany to Montreal in December 1976 and caught a glimpse of the shops as we left Albany. I really like the PAs and enjoy any pics of them. Great pics, thanks again.

I remember reading that railfans wanting to take photos at Colonie during the 1970s just had to sign a release and pay a nominal fee (one or two dollars).  Don't remember the source.

I moved to Albany in 1984, the year the D & H was taken over by Timothy Mellon/Guilford :(    I visited Colonie Yard, but the PAs were gone for several years, although there were other interesting Alco locomotives (presumably retired) as well as General Electrics.

Yes, the photo release cost $2.00. I went there many times while trying not to get too distracted from getting an education at RPI, just across the Hudson River.

1971 was a little earlier I guess no release, on a Sunday, don't remember seeing anyone, I know I didn't sneek in.

So much to see in those photos. I love the neatly stacked angle bars. I can just imagine sombody being punished " go out there and pile those angle bars, AND do it neatly"
