One of the best Krazy 1990's SP consists I happened across to personally video during my weekly pest control route between Twin Falls Idaho and Northern Nevada during the 1990's. After an overnight snow dump sticking to everything around! The Highlight is the two (SD-9's?) still operating and chugging along as the train powers Eastbound up Moor Hill, Right out of Wells,Nevada. This became a favorite place for me to video eastbound SP trains as they powered up in Wells to attack Moor Hill. Then shortly afterwards upon reaching Moor Summit, all the exitement was over, as the diesels were almost at Idle, to progress eastward to Pequop, and points East like Montello, Lakeside,and Eventually Salt Lake City,Utah.  Back then SP was borrowing power from every railroad it could get it's hands on, before the big sale to UP.  I'm pretty sure the Amtrak unit is Dead in Tow.

Pretty wild indeed.  No smoke from the Amtrak F40PH so probably dead in tow as you commented.

Several times had Amtrak units in the consist trailing of course.. The units were being shuttled to LA for major repairs. The units had defects like blown engines , electrical issues or blown air compressors.
