Nostalgia & History > When you can't go around them, go through them!Date: 09/19/23 03:58 When you can't go around them, go through them! Author: Roadjob The shot here fascinates me because of the amazing vision the railroad builders of the past had. To look at mountains looming in the distance, and laying out a route to get from one side to the other was visionary to say the least. When one looks at Tehachapi, Cajon, the Horseshoe Curve, Sand Patch, Marias Pass, and dozens of others, a simple unbelivable covers it all. Todays railroad power has leveled the hills somewhat, but, there is no speed records being set on them. This shot of a Santa Fe eastbound with the tunnel burrowed into this rock, stands as testimony to the tenacity it took to build the railroad. This train has come off of the Tehachapi Loop, one of the wonders of the railroad world. For the record, the decendants of the builders, emulated their forebearers by putting a second track around this tunnel!
