Back in the mid-seventies early in my N&W career, I rode a train with such a unit back in the power consist. The engineer was pissed. He had a few choice words about the power bureau in SOC. I think N&W may have fixed the problem later, but the non-DB unit would not pass through the DB circuit. Thus DB would not work on the units behind it. This was one of ten GP35s ordered by Wabash just before the N&W takeover. N&W cancelled the order after just seven units had been delivered. N&W 1303 was later NS 1303, Springfield Terminal 214.
