Nostalgia & History > Who Built the Automobile?Date: 03/27/24 22:20 Who Built the Automobile? Author: MacBeau This C. S. Batehan image from September 1909 of two Lake Shore Electric Niles cars in front of the Norwalk, Ohio depot adorns page 50 of Harwood and Korach's previously referenced tome on the LSE, but neither saw fit to say anything more about the automobile in the street than it is facing the wrong way. What I'd like to know is who made it? Looks kind of like a Croxton.
Be of good cheer, —Mac www.lowellamrine.com Date: 03/28/24 03:14 Re: Who Built the Automobile? Author: robj No idea of auto, there were a lot of "startups" back then(almost looks right handed?). But heck of photo including town name, railroad name, two cars and workers, courthouse, the auto and travellers.!

Bob Date: 03/28/24 04:10 Re: Who Built the Automobile? Author: engineerinvirginia Right hand drive was common in the brass era. Car may be a Croxton Jewel of some vintage, but the front fenders don't look right.

Steam, electric, several flavors of gasoline internal combustion, even kerosene. Many competing technologies. The standardization of gasoline formula and octane ratings made the widespread use of that fuel more likely. Up until then, gasoline cars ran on different mixes of fuel. Sort of like today and varieties of electric chargers. Date: 03/28/24 07:32 Re: Who Built the Automobile? Author: 1939dutchman Buick

Regards Posted from iPhone Date: 03/28/24 12:15 Re: Who Built the Automobile? Author: zars There is a story told in Norwalk of a young mother who, every day, would give her infant in a basket to the LSE motorman as the trolley passed by her home. The child would ride on the floor of the trolley next to the motorman to the other end of town. The child's grandmother would then pick up the child from the motorman and take it to her home. That evening, the process would be repeated going the other way.

No idea on the auto, but judging by the seats it looks to be left hand drive. The seat on the left is much smaller.
Date: 03/28/24 19:54 Re: Who Built the Automobile? Author: upkpfan It's right hand drive. Look again. upkpfan
