K4 steam on NY&LB in the 1950s
Author: Lackawanna484

Railroad Media Archives has a video of the New York & Long Branch railroad in the 1950s. Mostly K-4, with some CNJ Babyface, etc.

Steam engine on the turntable, others on the loop. Shark River Bridge, unhooking at South Amboy for G4855, etc. Several long time towers, many trains had combines. Lots of open farmland.

Crossing the new Garden State Parkway, CNJ freight, etc. Monmouth Park stop, many long trains through Elizabeth, steam trains into Exchange Place / Harborside, K cars to Newark Penn.

NY&LB used North / South for its directions.

U tube, Bay Head to Jersey City

Any specifics on locating the U-tube address for your recommendation?

I'd be interested in the location of the "turntable" , and which carrier(s)?
I grew up in Long Branch,  and there was a TT, at Long Branch,
which was removed about 1951, and filled-in.

The turntable was located inside the eastern end of the loop, where the western track makes a wide swing.

Pennsylvania Railroad and Jersey Central provided passenger service from the Hudson River south to Bay Head Junction, where the Pennsy alone continued south to Seaside Heights NJ.  Out on the barrier island.  Just north of the Perth Amboy station the Jersey Central split off on its own route (now the Conrail Shared Assets Garden State branch) to Elizabethport and on to Jersey City.  Pennsy split at the same point on its route to Rahway and on to its terminal in Jersey City.
