Two trains with EMD SD70M lease units
Author: GreenFlag

In March 1997, caught these two trains in Cajon Pass on the "SP cutoff" both with all EMD SD70M lease units. I was still referring to these trains as SP even though they were technically UP by that time although the operations in the LA Basin weren't completely merged until January 2000.
The first train has EMD 7015 7019 7013.
The second train has EMD 7021 7013 7019.
I believe these units later went to CSX, but I don't remember offhand?

Are the SLC Olympic units still getting around.

Thanks for sharing these images.  The units pictured were actually lease units from the group EMDX 7003-7024 built in 1995 on order 946531.  The SD70M demos were 7000-7002, built in 1992 on order 926307.  They differed from the leasers in having the cab entrance door on the fireman's or left side of the nose.  The later units had the entrance door on the engineer's or right side of the nose.  The demos also had red fuel tanks, and the lettering "Accepting Your Challenge, 70 series" on the sides of the units.  You are correct in that they all went to CSX, becoming CSXT 4875-4899.  Here is former demo 7000 still in her EMDX paint but wearing CSX 4675, with Bone Valley train O651 in Tampa FL on January 5, 2004.

Thanks for the update on how these units were actually EMD lease units. I always liked that maroon and silver paint scheme on those units.
