Switcher Saturday: Amtrak version
Author: march_hare

Throughout its existence, Amtrak has strived to minimize the amount of switching done to its trains (and thus the necessity of switchers)

But some places need a switcher, and Amtrak fielded some old ones.

1). AMT 743 has a couple cars of Springfield mail as it switches the Lake Shore Limited at Albany Rensselaer.  At this time, I believe this was the oldest locomotive in Class 1 service, nationwide.

2). Another SW-1 idles at Ivy City terminal

Both early 1980s images from Jim Odell.

The 738 now resides and works at St. Louis Union Station, devoid only of the Amtrak logo.
