Elderly SP SD for a location, please
Author: santafe199

With two threads in a row looking for location help I should give today the temporary nickname “Location Tuesday”. Here’s a roster shot trader slide from the Jim Watson collection that needs a location. Probably California. Hopefully it won’t be much of a problem with the commuter equipment in the background. TIA for the help...

1. SP 4450 is in San Francisco, CA* on January 27, 1975.
Original slide by Mr D V Jewell, from the late James W, Watson collection.

Thanks for the help!

*Once again, location Rx has been administered, thank you very much!

With those passenger cars in the background, it's gotta be on the SF peninsula, somewhere.

That's "Huff" of the "Huff & Puff" SD9 team that served in the Bay Area as commute back-ups, for special passenger movements and on an occasional freight.

That Belgian block pavement, or whatever it's called -- that's the best clue.

Didn't notice the overpass at the left edge of the pic --
he must be looking compass-west at I-280

I'll bet those cobblestones are King Street.  I think it was all cobblestone between 3rd and 7th.  Maybe even all the way to the Embarcadero, but not sure about that.

That's what I was thinking. King St.

I made a few views in Google Earth of the locay. Marked it with the yellow placemark. The first view is about same compass direction as the photographer in the OP. You can make out the fence sort of there along King St. The second view has the trackmap overlays turned on--orange is WP, yellow is ATSF, green is State Belt (switching railroad), and red SP with pink being the passenger yard. In the third photo it's a 1948 Harrison Ryker aerial and I'm trying to show the tracks in King St. In this view there's a cut of coaches on the track that the engine in the OP is on.
