Retired Santa Fe derrick in Winslow '96
Author: GreenFlag

On 5-7-96, came across retired Santa Fe derrick 199796 sitting in Winslow, AZ. On the boom, it is lettered for Amarillo.
It still had a well-worn builders plate. Looks like it was built in 1929.

ATSF 199796 was built by Industrial Brownhoist in 07/1929 (B/N=5168).
For being almost 70 y.o., it's lookin' pretty good here. Well, except for the builder plate.

As far as I know, 199796 was never actually assigned to Winslow.  Coincidentally, seldom-photographed 160-ton derrick 199790 that WAS assigned to Winslow showed up in this thread on 4/26:

The last derrick assigned to Winslow was 160-ton 199787:

Thanks Evan for the additional info on the derricks. I had forgotten that the one that I photo'ed in 1996 was on display there now. Turns out that I had some pictures of it when I stayed at the La Posada in June 2009.
