CIM #52 SD9 leading coal train. 7-19-1965. No location.

Not sure why the boxcars are interspersed.

Really nice. Have never seen a CIM shot out in the wide open spaces like that.

Neat trainload of C&IM coal hoppers.

Very unusual photo. I would never have thought they ran coal trains!

The C&IM had trackage rights on the Illinois Central's Springfield District between Avenue Tower (in Springfield, IL) and "CIMIC". CIMIC is south of Glenarm on IL Rt. 104, just west of I-55.

It's a wild guess, but somewhere between Springfield and CIMIC seems like a possible location.

Or near Havana, where the land is very flat.

Pure guess on location just NE of Glenarm, the train looks empty so I wonder if it's SB headed back to the mines

This is the location that comes to mind. The view from Northbound I-55 is very similar today.
