Nostalgia & History > A Flare for FridayDate: 04/26/24 06:57 A Flare for Friday Author: swaool D&RGW SD45 5335 leads a westbound manifest upgrade at Rocky (CO) siding on September 29, 1979. D&RGW 5335 was later rebuilt by NRE to SD40-2 specs and was at various times UP 4744:1, UP 2794 and CEFX/CITX 2794. Happily, she is extant as St. Croix Valley 1325 and is still a "flare", as shown at Harris MN on July 19, 2019. Two photos by Jeff Van Cleve, my collection.

While it would be nice to have had it repainted in the original DRGW colors, it sure looks good in the NP paint especially given where it was/is operating. Date: 04/26/24 08:55 Re: A Flare for Friday Author: texchief1 Great shots, Mike! Looks like the sanders are being used on the first shot.
