DH #501 RS3m leading freight, early 1976. No location. Conrail's Southern Tier Line?

Looks to me like a southbound approaching Cooperstown Junction with Route 7 across in the background.

Love the 86' auto parts boxcars in this image that are being produced in HO scale like crazy at the moment, by Tangent, Class One Model Works, and Scale Trains. And Athearn and Walthers have done them in the past.

Looks to be out in the Canisteo Valley west of Gang Mills.

Yup, not Cooperstown Jct., (pictured in 2020)
I'll have to go with the Canisteo too, but I'm not so familiar with things out there to get specific, maybe Rathbone, NY area westbound ?

Very few locations north of Binghamton with wide open riverbank like that. I'd go somewhere in the Canisteo Valley, simply because I'm less familiar with that area.

For what it's worth, the body of water in the '76 photo looks more like a pond or lake than a creek or river.

Could be in the Canisteo Valley.  Wasn't there washouts and flood damage after Tropical Storm Agnes in '72?  That might explain the absence of trackside vegetation, maybe even a pond-like channel being made to route the river.  Also notice that it's double track.  (Wasn't the Southern Tier mostly singled in that area in the early 90s?)

Yes, but back then it was double. I'm leaning Canisteo Valley but haven't found the house yet. Of course, could be gone. The river is right up against the tracks in many places. Of course, when the tracks and river are like that, the cliffs are typically right on the other side. But there are places. from Canisteo east.

I'm thinking from the Newcomb Road bridge at Rathbone. The house is between the tracks and highway. Check Google earth. The house is still there, if it's the right one.

Agree- Newcomb Road from the river bridge.

86 ft autoparts cars are from the Green Island Ford radiator plant.
