Louisiana & North West RR power in Gibsland
Author: gcm

Dec 1977
At the southern end of the L&NW in Gibsland,La.
Earlier that day I had chased a train with the two ex-SP F units and caboose to the left.
They were later sold and used on the Houston-Galveston Texas Limited in the early 90's.
Unfortunately they were later scrapped after water damage from Hurricane Ike in Galveston.
The unit I really wanted to see operate was 49, an ex-Western Pacific FP7 #805A used many times on the California Zephyr - see photo of it on CZ posted by rattenne yesterday.
Luckily it was saved, shipped back to California and repainted back to WP colors and is at the Portola Railroad Museum.
At Gibsland the track continued south as the North Louisiana & Gulf.

Great scene ! I wonder if the wood (pulp wood stock ?) came or went from there by rail.

The wood should be going south on the North Louisiana & Gulf.
They dropped off logs in Hodge where a paper mill was located.
