Guilford Potpourri from the early 21st Century
Author: JPB

Photo 1: A preview of things to come: CSX Q274 (empty autos from Ayer) slowly rolls west through Sterling MA on the GRS Worcester Main October 17, 2004. Fast forward 18 years, and now CSX owns the property via its acquisition of Pan Am Railways. But the only road freights here the Selkirk-Rigby Yard manifests Q426/Q427; autos to/from Sanvel yard at Ayer are handled by NS/B&E.

Photo 2: GRS pig train MOAY from Mohawk Yard to Hill Yard Ayer cants to the curve at Shirley MA September 4, 2005 with trailers and containers from Chicago via NS.

Photo 3: E Deerfield to Nashua train EDNA passes east through CPF-312 in Littleton MA. In 2024, CPF-312 is the far eastern point of Pan Am Southern operated by G&W's Berkshire & Eastern entity. East of 312 belongs to CSX.

I do; they were a lot more interesting to watch than CSX will ever be.  (Disclaimer: I certainly would not have wanted to work for them.)

Did some train watching in the Deerfield area around 1990 and it was a busy and fascinating place. Not sure if I have any slides from this trip. Very colorful lashups as I recall!
