Toss Back Tuesday - No "Range Anxiety" Here
Author: ironmtn

These days, a degree of "range anxiety" is a concern for those who are buying or who own electric vehicles - using up their battery charge before they reach a recharging station.

Burlington Northern once relieved energy supply concerns for its operations (and saved on fuel costs), as well as extending the operating range of diesel locomotive lashups, by including fuel tenders in locomotive consists. Tank cars were modified with feed lines to adjacent specially equipped locomotives. Sometimes used with helper sets, they were also used on long-haul unit trains. One was this unit coal train southbound on the ex-CB&Q "K-Line" along the Mississippi north of St. Louis, here crossing the Cuivre River (pronounced "quiver" locally) at Old Monroe, Mo. about 40 miles north of St. Louis in March,1989.
