Nostalgia & History > 20 Years of Underdressed, Oversized, and Out of PlaceDate: 07/10/24 06:20 20 Years of Underdressed, Oversized, and Out of Place Author: bandob Those were the opinions of the Baltimore Sun when the Man-Woman Statue by Jonathan Borofsky was placed in front of Baltimore's Penn Station in 2004. The statue is hollow stainless steel, with several hearts and Red and Blue LED lighting. It has been controversial for twenty years!
I do not know if is included for sure in Amtak's plans for the station redevelopment. I'm sure TO members have an opinion. B&O Bill Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 07/10/24 06:48 by bandob. The station on its own is beautiful, and the artwork isn't interesting, it merely obstructs the architecture. Likely a clause in a Federal grant mandating a certain percentage be spent "on the arts". I've seen it happen elsewhere. Should be interesting to see what happens in the redevelopment. Can't imagine them picking it up and moving it across the tracks to the "new" station entrance, when the old building is redeveloped into a hotel.

I wouldn't mind them picking it up and moving it across the tracks. To a dumpster. /Ted edit: Wait...did I just concur with the Baltimore Sun? Edited 1 time(s). You could make a great video of that, make it part of the annual anti-trespassing campaign.
