Tehachapi Hot Rods
Author: MacBeau

An eastbound pulls away from a restrictive signal at Tehachapi, August 1992. Moments later Southern Pacific's PCX passes through town behind a mixed quartet of SP and Cotton Belt GP60s.
Be of good cheer,

Hot rods? That train with the EMDs could barely make it up the hill!

Lots of MAY TRUCKING on that PCX.  I wish UP or BNSF would run more TOFC on their I-5 lines these days, BNSF especially.  Utilize thatr Inside Corridor and get the trucks off of I-5!

The throttle up from idle must have been amazing!

Sweet vids! I miss that era of railroading so much. Now I have to recreate it in HO scale.

I wonder which train this was and how big / heavy of a train?

About a month later I was fortunate to have a round-trip cab ride from Barstow to Bakersfield and return on trains 199 and 991. I don't recall any helpers being used on those hot trains.

Coming away from a dead stop, it did pretty well. Thanks to all for the kind words.

Absolutely fantastic!    A premium time to be watching trains over the pass.    GP60 overload!
Any chance of a video showing the whole train(s)?   Would love to see more of those oddball May Trucking trailers.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm with you Ted!

Awesome video Lowell, sure brings back fond memories of family trips to or through Tehachapi.

Nathan
