Nostalgia & History > Sulzer Sunday - 3 SP Popsicles In Portland Summer 1980Date: 09/01/24 09:52 Sulzer Sunday - 3 SP Popsicles In Portland Summer 1980 Author: FiveChime Photo taken from Amtrak, Sulzer M-K TE70-4S experimental units built in 1978 and retired in 1987.
They were built from retired GE U25Bs and retained GE traction motors and generators and produced 2800 HP. I encountered them a few times on SP in the Portland area, and all four, 7030 -7033 Eastbound in Spring of 1980, pictured here in third photo at Dorris Calif. It helped me realize just now how Unique these units really were. In the past, I was focused mostly on that paint scheme and kind of, (but not really) noticed that GP30 like roof and GE looking rear, but it never really registered in my brain until now. Plus that one piece front windshield too. I'm sure there's other different details about these units both inside and out, that I'm not informed enough to notice. their grueling 120 mile run. Out Date: 09/01/24 11:22 Re: Sulzer Sunday - 3 SP Popsicles In Portland Summer 1980 Author: railstiesballast Those first two photos are remarkably good for being taken out the window of a passing train.
