I got to ride in the control cab of the coach on a morning train out of Detroit in the later 90's , pushing all the way to Chicago. I was in Detroit as a delegate to the international convention of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. The control cab ride all the way to Chicago was interesting. We only had one grade crossing close call, and that was on the outskirts of Chicago. That was unexpected and different from what I experienced in the Carolinas. Nice too, considering the 90+ speeds we were making.
