Here's a BN set of GP-30's cruising through New Westminster taking the left at the junction with a re-post of the caboose grabbing orders. New Westminster or Sapperton are part of  the Metro Vancouver Regional District of British Columbia ... in Canada. This would be during a series of road trips in the early 1980's, looks like early in the year and Ektachrome kinda day.

We had just pulled up to the Depot and had not worked out the photo angles, it needed 30 years and some serious re-cropping in PS Elements to get this far. Apparently the incline of the Patullo Bridge is in the background, the rail bridge over the Fraser River would be in there somewhere, there was also the large walls of the old BC Penitentiary not too far off camera so it was a bit of a sensory overload. My family had lived in Seattle and visited Vancouver quite often, so I had some clue where and what was going on.

The caboose photos is a re-post with some interesting stories. The clerk hooping up orders is Dean Ogle, well known in the professional world and also the rail hobby community, note the newspaper that had just been dropped off by the crewman. There was just so much to photograph at the time, very cool. Note that the signals are turned to the side to indicate they are not in service. There was always some sort of construction or re-design turmoil going on with BN at the time. Google streetview shows the depot is still in place but I have no clue what the rail-operations are these days.

Nice heritage picture.  Ex-GN unit leading, and ex-CB&Q waycar on the rear.  BSB

Nice matched set and love seeing all the boxcars. Back when very few industries or warehouses did not have rail access.
