In late 70's, I remember seeing some sort of observation car on the end of an eastbound Lone Star approaching Newton, KS.  Anybody know if the car pictured above may have been it?

The Lone Star utilized several different obs cars during that time frame.  I have shots of AMTK 3260/ex-NYC 10632 "Wingate Brook" and AMTK 9252/ex-CB&Q 377 "Silver Solarium" on the Lone Star at Joliet on successive days in August 1974.

I probably washed the windows of both of the Lone Star consist sets pictured in this thread.  At the beginning of my time at Amtrak I was a coach cleaner and I volunteered for exterior duties as opposed to inside work.  I vividly recall our Amtrak supervisor RR Mitchell tell me the Lone Star was one of Amtrak's premier trains.  The observation cars on the Lone Star appeared intermittently up to May, 1975 according to my log book.   And of course with the addition of the Dallas section added to the rear of the train at Fort Worth, working an observation down to Houston was impossible

Nice shots of the Sunset with that reflection in the water. The only time that I ever rode that train all the way between LA and New Orleans was a month later in April 1978.

Thanks for the beautiful shots of the Lone Star observations. The shots of the Sunset were also great.
